An asbestos survey reports on the location, type, nature of and extent of any asbestos. In line with HSE guidance, there are two types of asbestos survey: the Asbestos Management Survey and the Asbestos Refurbishment and Demolition Survey. The Asbestos Management Survey is based on allowing the safe occupation of the premises and is a legal requirement for all non-domestic premises and is often recommended by surveyors prior to a house purchase.
The Asbestos Refurbishment and demolition Survey has to be completed before any refurbishment or demolition work can be carried out on a property.
On completion of the survey, a full asbestos survey report will be produced which will allow the property owner or duty holder to create a Management Plan to comply with all the latest asbestos regulations.
If you have responsibility for a property in the UK and it’s built before year 2000 then you are required to manage the risk of asbestos by its identification through an asbestos survey and then to assessed and monitor its condition on a regular basis.
